Tracking Litter

This walk takes me along Milton Road, then the Cowley Road segregated path that is often used by staff and vistors from Cambridge North station and the Science Park. From the station I join up with the Chisholm Trail and back into Chesterton.

Out the Window

Walking along the Cowley Road segregated path, I was shocked how much litter there was the small waterway that runs beside the path named 'First Public Drain', and to be honest I could have taken a photo every few feet! I presume a lot of litter is from passing nearby cars and blown in from Milton Road. Nevertheless, I suspect another source is from the walkers and cyclists using the pathway.

The Chisholm Trail

The Chisholm Trail, including Cambridge North station, is intended to link green spaces across Cambridge and to cut congestion by creating mostly traffic free routes for walkers and cyclists to use. I think this is a great idea - I just hope people don't ruin the green areas.

"Urban green spaces, such as parks, playgrounds, and residential greenery, can promote mental and physical health, and reduce morbidity and mortality in urban residents by providing psychological relaxation and stress alleviation, stimulating social cohesion, supporting physical activity, and reducing exposure to air pollutants, noise and excessive heat."
