Creating the future, conserving the past

Art walking journal along Newmarket Road, Cambridge. Documenting the litter of the present, viewing the development for the future and enjoying the heritage from the past.

"Let us learn from the past to profit by the present, and from the present, to live better in the future.”

The Past

The Leper Chapel of St Mary Magdalene dates from about 1125. And the Stourbridge fair initially grew out the a need to fund the care and support the lepers.

The Leper Chapel is owned and cared for by local charity Cambridge Past, Present & Future, who need your help to support the opening of the chapel and its conservation.

The Present

Along the way I found; a mass of litter beside the railway close to Barnwell Lake; a dumped matress; and two dumped shopping trolleys containing litter including, a half eaten cake.

The Future

The work on the Newmarket Road underpass will allow the Chisholm Trail to link from Ditton Meadows to Coldhams Common.
