I am pleased to announce that I will be exhibiting again at Williams Art Gallery in Gwydir Street, Cambridge. All of the work, much of it new, is created from found objects and recycled materials. This includes sculpture and furniture.

“Ashley’s ability to see art, function and humour in discarded materials – and metalwork in particular – singles his work out from everybody else’s.”
This exhibition is for one week only.
Meet Ashley on Saturday 17th between 3 and 5pm.
Here is a few new pics of my sculpture ‘Just Read Your Tweet’

My first new sculpture of 2010, made entirely from scrap metal including car parts and a scrap sash clamp. I really enjoyed making this sculpture and wanted to inject a bit of fun ‘comic strip humour’ into the work.

Had some success with sourcing interesting objects (engine parts, farm implements etc) and so far have several old engines to dismantle. But still need loads more – no such thing as too much.
I really need start sourcing more interesting scrap metal and found objects (metal) for sculpture. I am looking for old farm implements, train parts, engine parts. So if you know anyone in the UK who may be able to help – then please contact me.
I plan to update this blog with my new work and work in progress.

Part of Ashley Baldwin-Smith's series of fenland scenes
Recently, I have been working on a series of paintings depicting the fens. I spend a lot of time out in the fens sketching; fishing and walking my dog and it seemed natural to paint it. I have worked in a variety of styles – whatever felt right for the scene, mood, time of day and most of all how it made me feel.

Oil paint and mixed media
I have also been working on a very different series titled ‘recycled art’. For some I have purchased art from charity shops and then reworked them. For others, I have collected found objects and created a number of different sculptures and assemblages.
