I am so please with this sculpture as the finished work is exactly what I had in mind when I looked at my pile of scrap metal. And I had so much creating this sculpture – it is very tongue in cheek and is based on the weird and wonderful creatures that can be found in the deep parts of the oceans and that so fascinated me as a child.
For the paint finish, I used a range of car paints and many coats of lacquer.
Here is a few pics of a experimental metal table created from scrap crankshafts, cogs, gears and metal offcuts.

My first new sculpture of 2010, made entirely from scrap metal including car parts and a scrap sash clamp. I really enjoyed making this sculpture and wanted to inject a bit of fun ‘comic strip humour’ into the work.

Thought I would post some photos of work in progress – another sculpture made from recycled parts. These include a broken clamp, spanner, break drums and bearings:

Cleaning the sculpture
Here is a few pics of engines being dismantled ready for cleaning up and then using in sculpture and contemporary sculptural furniture.

I am delighted to announce that I have just put two of my metal sculptures on display at Haddenham Gallery Sculpture Garden. It is fantastic and interesting venue to display art and is well worth a visit. The sculpture garden has a whole range of work on display, by a diverce range of artists. In addition, there is a tea room, gift shop and two other galleries showing work from all round the world.

Scales of Balance - Balance of Scale
The private view for the Cambridge Arts Movement self-portrait exhibition at Williams Gallery was great fun and very well received. The range of work from all the different artists is very exciting and many of the visitors were interested in how each artist approached the subject.
And I was very pleased with the very positive feedback I got from fellow artists and visitors. It has given a real drive to do more experimental work.

7 days - Recycled Art
I have started producing a new series of work titled ‘recycled art’. This involves buying discarded art (often for a few quid) from charity shops and then reworking them. I keep some of the original, either by following the original composition or keeping some of the original visible.
I have updated www.ashwinstudio.co.uk with high res images of some of my earlier mixed media work. Both works andare 2d 3d works that include found objects but also oil paint – they are 3 dimensional paintings:

Oil paint and found objects. Materials include; copper plate, oil, paper collage, wood, hessian and metal off cuts.
