The Chair of Reflection is a new unique, funky and crazy metal chair from Ashwinstudio. It is created from metal tubing and metal boules with a ground reflective finish. The powder coat clear lacquer finish has been backed on and is very hard wearing. The transparent lacquer also allows the carefully made grind marks to shine through, reflecting the sun and surroundings and that, along with the quirky design, make the chair come alive.

Been a long time since I last blogged, it’s not that I have not been busy but more the case that I have many works on the go but they are either not finished or the weather has not really been good enough to photograph: Or when it was I forgot the camera!!

December was very frustrating and I must admit I struggled to get much done. With temperatures reaching -8c metal is not the easiest material to work with and then only really with gloves. It was also far too cold to paint or lacquer sculpture or furniture, even car wax was unusable. So the last few weeks of warmer weather has been great and things are really moving on and I hope to get some pics of my new work up very soon.

Here is a new photo of the V-Bench designed by Ashwinstudio in collaberation with artist artist Loukas Morley. Created from reclaimed girder off-cuts and discarded mahogany draw runners.

Otherwise known as the Bomford Bench although it could just easily been titled the New Holland Bench…

The Bomford bench is created from scrap farm parts including a Bomford flail skid (the seat), New Holland Combine dividers (the back rest) and shock absorder springs. We have kept the finish as bare metal coated in a clear lacquer.

Nothing like A Taste Of Orange in the summer

Just finshed a new metal table titled A Taste Of Orange created from scrap and found metal.

I wanted to create a table that would not only be functional but also work as a work of art – a sculpture, a painting and a decorative object. Once again it is made from recycled metal tubes and plate that have been shaped and sculpted.

The table is finished with a durable powder paint that is a bright summer orange. Finally, I hand painted the table top with vibrant enamel paints that also add to the citrus theme.

Spraying furniture and sculpture

Sorry I have not had much to report on this blog but I have spent most of my time spraying sculptures and sculptural furniture. I have a few on the go and they are all at the final stage and it is a case of mask off, spray, wait and then another coat of paint. Some of these works are intended for the outdoors so need many coats of paint.

Apart from that I have been sketching ideas for new works, tidying up the workshop and have purchased a new saw.

Collaboration with Loukas Morley

Recently I have been collaborating with Artist and Designer Loukas Morley. It has so far worked out really well, I have fabricated a base for one of his tables and he is creating a wooden top (created from recycled draws) for one of my designs. Both Loukas and I believe in recycling materials.
