Trinity – Sculpture in the Sanctuary

Of all the sculptures I have created, Trinity is one my favorite sculptures as it was a milestone in my development as an artist. I visualised it my head and then created it without drawings. The only real planning was to program the CNC to punch out the shapes. So it is great to Trinity in such beautiful landscape with a lake as a backdrop.

Visited the Sculpture in the Sanctuary

My family and I visited the Sculpture in the Sanctuary exhibition on the opening Saturday. Pity there was no private view but still it was good to see so many people enjoying the many artworks – The exhibition webstite now has sculpture slideshow.

New Sculptural Bench

Finally managed to finish the V-Bench which we have been working on, on and off, for some months. Have to contend with a number of problems from eco glue not sticking and welds getting too hot and metal bending. However, I think the final product is well worth the wait. It is created from metal girder offcuts that have been welded to gether to form the ‘V’. The bespoke top is made from recycled mahogany draw runners by artist Loukas Morley.

Abstract Painting: Explorations of the Mind 2

This painting is experimental in both technique and subject matter. I have used both acrylic in the early stages building up layers and dribbling paint from a stick at different angles. I then used glazes of oil paint to build up depth, colour and tonal changes. As for the subject – well judge for your self.

Finished this painting of a Spring Morning at St Ives just in time to go into the Landscape II exhibition at Williams Art Gallery. I only had minutes to sketch and photograph the April sky before it changed again.

Inside Out

Inside Out, is the title for my new painting. I painted it in two sittings, squeezing much of the colour directly onto the canvas and then mixing and drawing with palette knives. I tried to keep the colour as pure as possible and did not over blend. My main concern was the push-pull of colours, shapes and marks.
