Thought I would post a few photos of some of the sculpture and furniture from my Lost & Foundry 2 exhibition at Williams Art in Cambridge.

I am pleased to announce that I will be exhibiting again at Williams Art Gallery in Gwydir Street, Cambridge. All of the work, much of it new, is created from found objects and recycled materials. This includes sculpture and furniture.

“Ashley’s ability to see art, function and humour in discarded materials – and metalwork in particular – singles his work out from everybody else’s.”

This exhibition is for one week only.

Sculpture in the Sanctuary 2011 opens Saturday the 23rd July. And I will be there tomorrow to see all the amazing and varied work the artists have submitted to the exhibition. The Sanctuary is the perfect backdrop to the sculptures and of course I am interested to see how my work is displayed: I have submitted six sculptures and one sculptural chair.

Chair of Reflection

The Chair of Reflection is a new unique, funky and crazy metal chair from Ashwinstudio. It is created from metal tubing and metal boules with a ground reflective finish. The powder coat clear lacquer finish has been backed on and is very hard wearing. The transparent lacquer also allows the carefully made grind marks to shine through, reflecting the sun and surroundings and that, along with the quirky design, make the chair come alive.

I have nearly finished a new sculptural metal chair, just needs some more grinding and general cleaning up – then it is off to be powder coated with a hardwearing clear lacquer. Below are photos of it in the workshop and some with me taking a quick rest after much MIG welding.

Been a long time since I last blogged, it’s not that I have not been busy but more the case that I have many works on the go but they are either not finished or the weather has not really been good enough to photograph: Or when it was I forgot the camera!!

December was very frustrating and I must admit I struggled to get much done. With temperatures reaching -8c metal is not the easiest material to work with and then only really with gloves. It was also far too cold to paint or lacquer sculpture or furniture, even car wax was unusable. So the last few weeks of warmer weather has been great and things are really moving on and I hope to get some pics of my new work up very soon.

Tube Chair

Been a while since I posted but I have busy exhibiting and creating new work. One of which is this Tube Chair created entirely from steel tubes that are welded together.

From the very start I wanted to create a unique chair that would work as a sculpture and function as a chair. And instead of using the same lengths of tubing I cut them to various lengths as I believe this adds more interest to the finished work and makes visually appealing from all angles.
