Mayday Marina

By Ashley, 08/12/2009 6:20 pm

Finally, my painting titled Mayday Marina is dry enough to be hung in an exhibition at the Williams Gallery. Whilst painting this, I really wanted to capture some the energy of the busy yachts and the array of colours. I applied the paint thickly with big brushes and palette knives.

Ten Mile Bank viewed from Brandon Creek

By Ashley, 07/24/2009 1:04 pm

I painted this view, another in my Fenland Series,  of Ten Mile Bank near Brandon Creek in June. I painted this wet in wet with mostly a large brush as I rushed to capture the vivid blue fen sky and the morphing clouds.

Abstract paintings displayed at Cambridge Gallery

By Ashley, 07/02/2009 12:01 pm

Two of my abstract paintings are now hanging at Cambridge based Williams Art Gallery.

I have had some very positive feedback about both paintings, Inside Out and Street Walk, from fellow artists and visitors. It always good to get feedback (good or bad) especially with abstract art as it is fascinating to find out if the viewer sees what you intended or something completely new.   A lot of work time and much thinking went into creating both paintings.

New painting titled Fen Storm

By Ashley, 06/22/2009 3:51 pm

Fen Storm is a different painting to my recent work, it is painted with free , expressive and large brush strokes. I really enjoyed painting this and will work in this way on future paintings. I hope I have managed to capture the atmosphere off being caught in the storm – I got totally soaked during this storm.

Decided to show two of my paintings depicting avenue of trees and different times of the year.

June Avenue, oil on canvas

June Avenue was painted a few months ago but is based on paint sketches made last year.

Autumn Avenue, oil on canvas

Autumn Avenue is also based on sketches made at Jesus Green, Cambridge last autumn. Both paintings are very influenced by Impressionism.

Watching paint dry

By Ashley, 06/16/2009 9:33 pm

I have paintings on the go, all at different stages, some very close to completion and others midway. However, they are all at a stage where they need to dry before I can continue.

Three are landscapes and two are abstract. Hopefully, I will post some pics of them soon.

En plein air

By Ashley, 06/05/2009 1:03 pm

Finished framing another of my Norfolk Broads paintings, this one was one of two I painted en plein air on a cold late winters day. I had to keep switching between the two as the light changed.
